The SPEED of High Performance
The five qualities that set you apart from the pack.
High performance isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon.
If you’re serious about achieving high performance in the music industry—or in any field—embrace the philosophy of S.P.E.E.D.
Sacrifice
Purpose
Endurance
Experience
Daring
These five characteristics create a mindset for sustaining high performance over time, no matter the obstacles.
Sacrifice
Let’s be real: success demands sacrifice.
You have to make the conscious decision to let go of distractions that pull you away from your vision.
High performers understand that achieving greatness comes at the cost of comfort, security, and sometimes, short-term gratification. Whether it’s late-night parties, endless social media scrolling, or relationships that don't align with your goals, some things must be sacrificed along the way.
How to Embrace Sacrifice:
Set Non-Negotiables: Identify what you’re willing to give up to reach your goals. Maybe it’s cutting down on Netflix time to work on your craft. Make that choice, and commit to it.
Create Boundaries: Say ‘no’ more often. When something isn't pushing you toward your goal, it's pulling you away from it.
Prioritize: Put your time and energy into what truly matters—your music, your craft, your future financial freedom.

Sacrifice isn't about depriving yourself of the lifestyle you want; it’s about clearing the path for the lifestyle you deserve.
Purpose
Without a clear purpose, you’re just spinning your wheels.
Purpose gives you direction, a reason to push through when things get tough.
In the music industry, your purpose needs to be more than just fame or money. It could be the desire to create music that moves people, to inspire change, or to leave a legacy.
How to Embrace Purpose:
Define Your ‘Why’: Sit down and ask yourself why you’re doing what you do. Is it to create meaningful art? To inspire the next generation? The stronger your 'why,' the harder it is to knock you off course.
Align Actions with Purpose: Once you know your purpose, ensure your actions reflect it. Does each project you take on move you toward your long-term vision?
Use Purpose as Fuel: On those hard days when motivation is lacking, reconnect with your ‘why’. It’s the fuel that keeps you going even when external rewards seem far off.

Endurance
Those who keep pushing forward despite the odds ultimately succeed.
You have to be ready to endure the setbacks and the long hours.
Everyone faces rejection, creative block, and industry disruption—but for every minor setback there is potential for a major comeback.
How to Embrace Endurance:
Build Resilience: Develop a mindset that embraces challenges. Every setback is a lesson, not a reason to quit. The more you fail, the more you learn.
Pace Yourself: You can’t burn out early. Learn to balance intense work periods with rest. Build a routine that includes time for recovery, whether it’s taking breaks, exercising, or meditating.
Consistency Is Key: Endurance isn’t about doing everything at once; it’s about showing up, day after day, over the long haul. Consistent effort always wins over sporadic intensity.
As you build your endurance, it is also important tor remember…
Slow and steady wins the race.
You must take care of yourself along the way.

Experience
Nothing beats experience.
You can study theory all you want, but real growth comes from hands-on experience.
In the music industry, that might mean co-writing, releasing music, playing gigs, and seeing what works on social media. You have to constantly be trying new things, meeting new people, and learning how to navigate this complex industry.
🏡 HOME is a great place to build your connections and get hands-on experience for a fraction of what it costs to go to a school.
How to Embrace Experience:
Learn by Doing: Don’t wait for the ‘perfect’ moment. Dive in. Release that EP. Collaborate with that artist. The more you do, the more you learn.
Seek Feedback: Experience is only valuable when you learn from it. Seek honest feedback from mentors, peers, and even fans. Use it to refine your skills, style, and approach.

Daring
Greatness requires courage.
Fortune favors the bold.
You must be daring enough to step outside your comfort zone, try new things, and challenge the status quo. The most successful musicians and entrepreneurs are those who take risks—whether it’s creating a completely unique sound or launching a wildly innovative business idea.
Before going deeper into this daring mindset, it’s also important to mention that some decisions require more consideration and analysis than others.
Here’s a video interview with Jeff Bezos where he describes his decision making philosophy.
I encourage you to watch it before making your own daring decisions!
How to Embrace Daring:
Take Calculated Risks: Bold moves don’t have to be reckless. Analyze the opportunities and consequences, then take the leap. Whether it's sending the email to that A&R, investing in your marketing, or experimenting with a new sound, don’t let fear hold you back.
Be Fearless in Your Creativity: Don’t play it safe. Push boundaries in your music, in your performance, in your brand. Fear of judgment is often what keeps people from doing something extraordinary.
Learn to Embrace Failure: Every daring act won’t be a success, and that’s okay. Embrace failure as a necessary part of learning and expanding your limits. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
Want to gain a more empowered and daring mindset?
Daring is about stepping into uncertainty and trusting that your experience has prepared you for whatever may arise.
